A New Powerbook

| Comments

After a great experience with my first powerbook 3 years ago, I decided to bite the bullet and get myself a new one. The old powerbook was a real workhorse. The best piece of computing machinery I’ve owned. I’m hoping that this new one will live up to that reputation.

Bar none, I think Apple makes the best notebooks in the world. Gorgeous to look at with excellent build quality. That’s what I’ve come to expect from an Apple notebook. I think there is some truth to the G4 processor being less powerful than the X86 processors but it’s fast enough for everything I want to do.

IBM thinkpads are solid machines but in my opinion come in second.

Sorry for the long delay. Things have been a little crazy. I’ll get back to writing within the next few days.

Finally got internet access going in my new apartment. Had a “fun” time trying to figure out why I could not access the internet. While everything looked physically correct, I did not ask for the self install kit supplied by comcast. Apparently the self install kit does some registration crap on top on setting up your various networking settings. Well duh if I had know that I would have gotten myself the self install kit but I was just trying to save myself a couple of dollars and I assumed that DHCP should have automatically given you all the right settings. If you needed to do some registration, why couldn’t they just redirect you to the correct set of webpages like they do for adhoc wireless internet connections in various places around the world. I decided to call comcast and ask them what was wrong with my connection (which was how I found out about the purpose of the self install kit). Anyway I had a less than pleasant experience with the tech support person. I was just *shocked* at how I was treated by this guy. Surly. Abusive. Argumentative. *Not* a pleasant experience. I knew what this guy was asking me to do but I wouldn’t want my mom or dad or any person less savvy to have to talk with this guy. To cut a long story short, I had a sufficiently bad experience with comcast that I’ve decided to take my business elsewhere. As soon as Speakeasy comes through for me, I will be cancelling my comcast cable internet. If I had the option I would probably cancel my comcast cable tv but alas they are the only provider in the area. My experiences with the cable tv people have never been bad so that is a point in their favor.
